Individualized Treatment for Families

Multi-ethnic family at home with mental health professionalMichiana Behavioral Health is dedicated to providing individualized mental health care and addiction treatment to adults, teens, and children. Our Plymouth, Indiana, facility offers a therapeutic environment for patients and their families to improve their lives and focus on recovery. We take a holistic approach to deliver mental health care treatment to our patients, involving a multidisciplinary team of physicians, therapists, and psychiatrists as we develop a treatment plan tailored to the needs of each patient. We include family and loved ones throughout the treatment process as well, making sure they’re educated on our approach, the patient’s needs, and what kind of aftercare is necessary to help the whole family stay well after discharge.

Our treatment philosophy is grounded in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), a skills-based treatment modality that encourages patients to live in the present instead of focusing on past instances and behaviors that may be holding them back. DBT is centered on four central pillars/skills:

  • Mindfulness: learning how to be fully present in the moment and live freely, without judgment.
  • Emotion Regulation: learning how to reduce vulnerabilities, change negative emotions and improve problem-solving skills.
  • Distress Tolerance: Identifying how emotional pain and mental distress can lead to dysfunctional behaviors, and finding methods to navigate, tolerate and redirect those feelings in that are not destructive to self and others.
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness: Identifying your own emotional needs and learning healthy ways to manage conflicts and create emotionally-secure environments.

DBT focuses on giving patients the tools they need to live better lives in a world that can be full of stressors and triggers. By enabling our patients to be active participants in their treatment, we can deliver care that sets our patients up for long-term success and wellness.
